not dead, just busy.
working on cupcakes for work cupcake contest.
coconut pound cake w/lemon curd filling and a ginger buttercream frosting.
right now I have the pound cake and the curd made. the cake isn't coconutty enough, but there's no way I'm baking another set of cakes. these are just fine. the cake is moist, tasty, and not too dense. the lemon curd is tart and tasty. the combo of the two is just out of this world. I hope the addition of the frosting is a good thing and not a bad!

I'm not dead, just working insane hours. Hopefully tonight was the last of the insanity. If not, I'm going to explode sometime, I'm guessing wednesday!

I just finished watching season 1 of Mad Men. It is seriously one of the most amazing tv shows I have ever watched. The writing is so tight, the acting so amazing, everything is just so fabulous. I'm hesitant to recommend it as it won't be a show for everyone, but if you like drama without dramatics, have an interest in American cultural history, and love characters who are all flawed (some self-destructive), this might be the show for you. It's not flashy or witty, just a quiet escalation of plot and personality that will just hit you in the gut before you realize what's happened. Brilliant.

my website is now officially set-up to accept credit cards other than paypal! It was a pain in the rump to figure out, but I did it! I have the https and golden lock to prove it! aaaaand, I did it all by myself! (and with the help of google..shhhhhh)

I'm in a craft show this weekend (saturday and sunday). I just finished making, carding, and pricing all the jewelry. I also have everything gathered together in a pile ready to be packed in the car. I only have one or two small things to do once I get there (really small items, I learned my lesson last time!!), so I'm calling myself ready to go...well, except for the suitcase. I still gotta pack that. darn.

Today I made pesto! Tonight I'm making strawberry jam! yay! Meijer had strawberries $1 per pound container, so I decided strawberry jam was in order! Next week I'm going to go picking blueberries and make blueberry jam. I love homemade jam *drools*

last night someone stole our rear license plate. booo! even more annoying is that the dmv is closed on mondays. sucks.
right now I have, hype has it, the most amazing macaroni and cheese in the oven. It smells damn good, so I am inclined to believe the hype.
Going to the Police Station after dinner with birdie to file a report. Don't want my stolen plate to be used for some nefarious purpose. blah!

I am so excited about the coming berry season. J and I discovered a local u-pick farm at the farmer's market last winter. I stuck the flyer to the fridge and since then I've been patiently waiting for the fruit to come in season. Well, that time is about here! I am so excited. I'm going to pick a ton of cherries and blueberries and make yummy yummy jam. Later on I think I might try blackberry jelly, but that would require buying a food mill. Yet another piece of kitchen equipment I don't have room for!
Anyone who's local is welcome to come out with me :) I'm guessing the cherries will be available sometime soon, maybe this weekend or next. the website for the farm is here. Blueberries should be soon, hopefully I can take care of both cherries and blueberries in the same trip.

I'm starting to get into full summer mode. I'm starting to crave cold salads and excessive amounts of fresh veggies, more so than I normally do. I just made up a container of curried egg salad with dried currants and sliced almonds. mmmmmmmmm. that's going to make a yummy lunch tomorrow along with the field greens and grape tomatoes we've got.
the rest of this week I'm going to make curried chicken salad and possibly a saffron orzo pasta salad. mmmmmmmmmmm

My nephew is seriously the funniest kid on this planet. I was talking to my dad and he told me a story from Saturday.
Background, my nephew turned 3 this past Feb. and he's pretty darn smart.
So, he's watching Dora at my parents house while sitting in his little recliner. He's eating blueberries one by one out of a glass. He loves blueberries. He's mesmerized by the show, so he's kinda mechanically eating the blueberries while maintaining focus on the tv. They had a segue segment on the show of Dora counting the arms on an octopus. My dad asks my nephew "logan, how many arms does an octopus have?" Without missing a beat and still staring at the tv, my nephew says "not arms, tentacles."
Seriously dude, this kid cracks me up.
Also, he's almost 40" tall. Dude.
